Sensei Andrew Collingwood - Sandan (3rd Dan)
Andrew is forty-nine years old and has been practising karate for twenty-three years, attaining his black belt after six years training. Before this he trained for five years in boxing. He made the transition from boxing to karate after deciding that at twenty-six years old he was getting too old to continue boxing at any level. His father Ken Collingwood Yondan (4th Dan) encouraged him to take up karate in September 1994, he has continued to train and teach ever since.
Andrew is a registered Independent Martial Art Sports Association (IMASA) instructor, has attended many courses on coaching, refereeing, self-defence, national and international training camps under the instruction of many top, world-renowned karate instructors. He is Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) enhanced check passed, has attended several courses on ‘Safeguarding and Protecting Children’, is qualified and licensed in physical intervention and control and restraint procedures as laid down by the UK Home Office. He is an advanced first aider and qualified in the use of electronic defibrillators.
He was awarded the rank of Nidan (2nd Dan) by Kobe Osaka International President and Chief Instructor Tommy Morris in June 2012. This was ratified by Independent Martial Art Sports Association (IMASA) in July 2014. In July 2017 he was awarded the rank of Sandan (3rd Dan) by IMASA.
